VALERIA TOLA CERAMICHE

Motivated by her passion and love for ceramics, after having finished her studies at the Institute of Art in Oristano, Valeria Tola, in 1992, opened her workshop in Macomer, where she currently creates and produces. Her work is characterised by a reinterpretation of numerous expressive forms of Sardinian culture material, reinterpreted through contemporary style codes. Fabrics, jewels and embroidery are all part of the rich iconographic heritage that she draws upon to develop objects with clear identity value but consistent with the most sophisticated demands of contemporary craftsmanship. Her curiosity leads her to collaborate with other artists, with whom projects are created that stimulate and enrich her expressiveness, opening up new avenues to follow and ongoing projects

An eclectic and always interesting production, which is spread across numerous subjects and sectors: everyday objects such as plates, bowls, table centrepieces, cups and carafes, presented in varied and different ranges, go side by side with ceramic jewellery, examples of elegant buttons used for traditional costumes; archaically shaped cowbells but remarkably contemporary are intended to make our rooms bright and joyful, icons of sophisticated and contemporary artistic craftsmanship.

The work, completely done by hand, is expressed through different techniques and materials, relative to the object and its intended use. The shaping through slab building, coiling and moulding are skillfully performed and expressed to match the artistic inspiration and the intended use. Mixed decorative techniques which include fretwork, engraving and relief carving go hand in hand with glazing on the second and third firing, tools of a sunny and vivid artistic expression.
