SARDAIGNE EN LIBERTE'

Sardaigne en liberté is the first tourist operator in Sardinia to strive for environmentally responsible, fair and ethical tourism.

Ecotourism, tourism that has at its heart nature discovery whilst respecting the environment and local culture, is the essence of our approach.

Sardaigne en liberté is committed to environmentally responsible, fair and ethical tourism.

Environmentally responsible because we care about: involving participants and local communities in the development, implementation and supervision of our trips; reducing the impact of our activities on the environment to a minimum; respecting nature during our walks, (systematically collecting waste); conserving spaces and natural resources.

Ethical due to our care and attention: respecting and promoting culture, traditions and the lifestyle of the local population; promoting and organising groups, pooling together the efforts and wisdom of local participants; duly informing our clients about all the best practices of hikers and responsible travellers.

Fair because of our thoughtfulness: guaranteeing a fair payment for all participants, accompanying our partners through their development; promoting necessary training to improve workers’ skills.

Our activities:

– Sheep Transhumance, known as “Tràmuda” in Sardinian, was a widespread practice in Sardinia. The island ranks first in the Mediterranean regions for its number of free-roaming animals. Today, transhumance is still carried out in some parts of Sardinia, such as Ogliastra, but only over short distances.

Taking part in the transhumance gives you the chance to learn about the lives of shepherds, their practices, profession, (shearing, cheese production. etc.). It’s ideal for families and children, and donkeys accompany the herds.

After walking, we share a well-earned traditional transhumance lunch, made of cheese, meat and bread.

– In the past, Sardinian women used to make homemade stuffed pasta called “Culurgiones”. A true speciality of Ogliastra, its culurgiones are made of potato, cheese, mint and garlic. We are welcomed into an old Sardinian house to share this ancient tradition and, here, we learn how to make culurgiones, with the help and careful attention of the owner of the house.

All ingredients come from local agriculture (flour, potatoes, mint and Sardinian pecorino).

To finish with, after setting the table, we begin with an aperitif accompanied by a fine glass of local wine and then continue having dinner with our culurgiones and many other local specialities.

– Discover amazing coves, typical of the east coast and surrounded by the mountains of Supramonte which fall steeply into the sea, the sandy white beaches, the blue skies and the greenery of the Mediterranean shrub, characteristic of the Mediterranean landscape.

There are different stops along the way to take a dip in the sea and then an aperitif followed by lunch on board a catamaran.

You’ll spend an enjoyable day admiring the views and being lulled by the gentle sounds of the sea. For those less contemplative, it’s the perfect occasion to dive in and try some snorkelling, discover the sea bed and the underwater life, or have a go on our paddleboards.

– Departing from Santa Maria Navarrese, a small village with a tourist port in the middle of the eastern Sardinian coast, we offer evenings on board our catamaran, where you can admire the starry sky and be lulled by the gentle sounds of the sea.

We start off exploring the Isle of Ogliastra, a small deserted isle. Here, we’ll recount the story of a person who lived there during the second world war. As well as this, you’ll have the opportunity, if you wish, to have a dip in the sea before having an aperitif.

You will enjoy a delicious dinner onboard, a perfect occasion to discover the delights of Sardinian gastronomy, with local products such as cheeses, cold cuts, Sardinian bread and desserts.

– Trips among the vineyards of the “Tacchi” of Ogliastra: visiting on foot and with Sardinian donkeys the village Jerzu, famous for its wine and fertile hills.

The trip will be a chance to taste the famous Cannonau and learn about local products.

The excellent Sardinian wine is attributed to one of the reasons for the famous longevity of the inhabitants of Ogliastra.

– Using E-bikes are essential if you wish to explore the island’s inner territory with its hills crossed by trails or narrow roads which go up and down. With our proposed excursion, we will immerse ourselves in an ancestral realm where time seems to stand still: welcome to the “Tacchi” of Ogliastra.

We’ll cycle in total stillness, contemplating the unspoilt nature as far as the eye can see, with  placid cows wandering alongside us and the stretch of water of Lake Bau Muggeris as our background, we will reach Perda è Liana. This towering solitary “Tacco” dates back to the Jurassic period. From its height of 1293mt, it reigns over the whole area, a genuine natural monument. We can stop for a rest here, take some photos and/or walk until the limestone rock to have a better look (about 15mins on foot to reach it).

The bike ride is a 35km circular route, and thanks to the E-bikes they make it an enjoyable ride for everyone.
