The S’Abba Frisca museum park stands on a farm passed down from generation to generation and has been continuously active and productive for more than two hundred years.
The owner, Portolo Secci, used to spend some of his summer at S’abba Vrisca from an early age. The name was given to the place by his grandfather Antonio due to the wealth of springs and to distinguish it from his other small neighbouring farms.
It was at that time he learned to appreciate everything his grandfather had created: dry stone walls that supported terraces on which he would let loose his creativity, decorating them with displays of vegetables, fruit trees and flowers for all seasons.
The change from farm to Museum park occurred when Portolu became the owner. He expanded and developed it and over the last forty years has with meticulous care and attention worked knowledgeably towards restoring the historical memory, carrying out substantial structural work in the environment and in the preservation of existing objects that were in a state of disrepair and which have since increased in number due to numerous donations.
This same passion moved Portolu to revive this beloved place, where an old wine press and a stone olive press always played the main role. He researched, studied and planted in the park, dyeing, aromatic and medicinal plants of yesteryear, the same ones used in the past by his grandmother Zizza and his mother, Maria Antonia.
Later, through his endeavours in shaping the land, he was able to create a complete naturalistic park, which thanks to the old springs that lie within is enriched by stunning nooks and corners, where today water is the dominant element.
Later on in life, collaborating with his wife Laura and their children Gianluca, Marcello and Pierandrea, it became a tourist accommodation, unique in Italy, while conserving the original features of a farm, today it represents one of the most important tourist attractions in the territory.
In 2018 S’Abba Frisca was recognised by the Sardinian region as the most comprehensive ethnographic and naturalistic museum in Sardinia. The first private museum with full status in the regional register of cultural institutes and places.
