Our family has been growing grapevines and olive trees for generations. Currently, we own an area of about ten hectares of cultivated vineyards, in addition, there are three hectares of land dedicated to olive groves. The terrain is in the countryside of Dorgali, in the stunning valley of Oddoene. The valley thanks to numerous plantations, was a symbol of economic rebirth during the second world war. It’s located a short distance from the sea and its soils are rich in crumbly mixed limestone granite. Furthermore, the microclimate lends an unmistakable character to the area, which is perfectly suited to planting grapevines.
The olive groves are sub-divided into four plots: the plants are around eighty years old and the prevalent cultivar is Bosana. The oil produces strong Mediterranean aromas and an intense flavour. The extra virgin Berritta olive oil is produced in 0.25 litres, 0.50 litres, one litre and three litre formats.
The grape variety is made up of 75 per cent Cannonau. This variety’s classic and natural habitat is found in the valleys of Dorgali. Besides the traditional Sardinian and Mediterranean wine, we grow Syrah: this variety is produced as a single variety and with a blend of Cannonau. Then there is Panzale which is a rare native white-berry grape variety. This type was originally meant for consumption as grapes. Thanks to ingenious intuition, it was rediscovered by Antonio Berritta, winemaker and founder of our winery, who more than ten years ago started a long and careful effort of recovery and selection, with the aim of transforming it into a wine with an unmistakable flavour that is fresh, full-bodied, with almond notes.
The grapevines have always been grown using traditional methods and agronomic techniques aimed at organic production which respect the plants, terrain and also traditions. The organic authenticity is shown on labels starting from the 2019 vintage.
There are eight wines produced, and the current wine production is around 30 thousand bottles. The aim of the winery in the near future is to use the full potential of the vineyards, overall around twenty hectares.
