CASTELLO MALICAS

Positioned on a small basalt hill, Castle Malicas is an old residence dating back to 1900. Belonging to Paolo Guzzetti, a nobleman from Lombardy who, charmed by the natural beauty and landscape of Galtelli, decided to establish his summer and hunting residence here.

In olden times, the single room “Lia” was the kitchen and today some of its structural features are a reminder of its original function: the small fireplace and a recess with a shelf carved directly into the wall. Lia is the perfect single accommodation and provides all the comforts for a relaxing stay of one or more days.  It features a double bed, bathroom with shower, hairdryer, air-conditioning/heater, satellite TV, Wi-Fi and telephone which is free to use for local calls.

Every double room has its own history since each had its own well-defined role within the castle. All are furnished in Sardinian style and have the same facilities. Furthermore, instead of the usual room number, each room is named after characters from books by Grazia Deledda. Double bed, bathroom with shower, hairdryer, air-conditioning/heater, satellite TV, Wi-Fi and telephone which is free to use for local calls.

Noemi originally was the bedroom of Count Guzzetti. Today, it is a large double room, well furnished in a Sardinian rustic style, in which the main colour is yellow. The distinct uniqueness of this room is the brightness generated from the three windows with views. It features twin beds, a bathroom with shower, hairdryer, air-conditioning/heater, satellite TV, Wi-Fi and telephone which is free to use for local calls.

In the past, the room named after Ruth was the dining room and used to contain, other than typical furnishings from that period, a collection of the Count’s weapons and guns. Nowadays, it is a comfortable triple room, perfect for families and small groups of friends. This room also provides all the necessary comforts for a pleasant stay.

The only annexe of the hotel takes its name from the old servant of the Dame of “Canne al Vento” (Reeds in the Wind), Efix, and was originally a stable. Very bright thanks to the large windows and French doors, it’s the only room to have a trellis ceiling just like it used to in the past.

The breakfast buffet is both sweet and savoury. It mainly consists of Sardinian food produce: local cheeses and cold cuts, bread and typical sweets, traditional ring-shaped cakes, 0km fruit and vegetables, tarts and cakes, including savoury and homemade, Sardinian produced honey, jams made with fruits characteristic of our land (myrtle, strawberry tree fruits, pompia, pear, apple and ginger, orange, peach, cherry and strawberry), yoghurt and Sardinian butter, milk and herbal teas.

In addition, the buffet can change when there are village festivals. Traditional sweets are made for these occasions, such as traditional Sardinian biscuits, casatinas made with ricotta or cheese and mint, papassinos, vuvusones (typical Sardinian sweets), coconeddos (typical Sardinian biscuits), peaches, amaretto biscuits. Guests can try these treats at our buffet.

As well as this, pane carasatu (a traditional Sardinian flatbread) is an excellent alternative to the usual biscuits. You can eat it in a variety of ways: one not to be missed is with ricotta and honey but equally delicious is if you soften it and use it to make rolls to your liking.
