From the green of the mountains to the blue of the sea: hiking, trekking, adventure and outdoor activities with a sea view

Every season in Sardinia offers a new side of the island to explore and get to know. Spring is definitely the best time for hiking and outdoor activities in the wildest and most unspoilt nature, but always with an eye on the shimmering sea. On the east coast, you can enjoy many adventures between the sea and the mountains, thanks to trekking on paths through the thickest vegetation, adrenalin-pumping activities such as free climbing in Supramonte, and many other experiences to be enjoyed with the people you love most.

Supramonte marino, an athlete’s paradise

Between the municipalities of Dorgali and Baunei lies the so-called Supramonte marino, a spectacular area where the mountains plunge into the sea in a succession of cliffs, reefs and caves. Here you can go on incredible trekking excursions. In Cala Gonone, the trek from Fuili beach to Cala Luna is one of the most popular in the area, a 5-kilometre-long route made up of ups and downs and branches over rocky terrain, occasionally very steep, leading in turn to other coves. It is moderately strenuous but once you get to the end you will understand why it is worth it. For the more intrepid and well-trained, it is possible to do the Selvaggio Blu (Wild Blue) trek, a multi-day route in which, between walking and climbing, one crosses a stretch of coastline characterised by wild nature and panoramic views of the sea of a blue so intense that it gives its name to the route. Climbing enthusiasts, on the other hand, can try their hand at free climbing in two internationally renowned rock gyms, Poltronae Budinetto.

Excursions to discover Baunei’s most beautiful coves

Ask anyone who knows Sardinia well and they will tell you that the most beautiful and paradisiacal coves are on the east coast of the island. A 3 km-long trek will take you to Cala Goloritzé, a unique natural monument that can only be reached on foot or by boat. The path to the beach is an attraction in itself with its white stones, dense vegetation, donkeys and goats that seem to greet passing visitors. Cala Goloritzé is famous for its beautiful colours, but since the 1990s it has also become a favourite destination for climbing enthusiasts who come here to climb the Aguglia di Goloritzè.

Other bays in the vicinity that are definitely worth a visit are Cala Sisine, which can be reached by trekking through canyons and lush Mediterranean scrub, and Cala Mariolu, an unforgettable little paradise. Fortunately for the less sporty, these coves can also be reached by sea thanks to boat excursions that combine visits to several coves on the same day.

Family experiences at the Bidderosa Oasis

The Bidderosa Oasis is a beautiful area in Baronia, completely immersed in the Mediterranean maquis. A day excursion allows you to see various natural settings. In order for it to be sustainable for years, entry to the park is limited to a certain number of cars, so especially in summer if you arrive by car, we advise you to book your excursion in advance, in the company of an environmental excursion guide. Once in the oasis, you can visit the five beaches (named Oasis 1, Oasis 2, Oasis 3, Oasis 4 and Oasis 5). Some are more rocky and suitable for snorkelling, others are characterised by fine white sand and shallow waters perfect for children. The path on which you walk during this excursion branches off amidst an expanse of pines, cork oaks, arbutus and juniper trees and leads to various attractions: ancient sheepfolds inhabited until the 1960s of which traces still remain, Mount Urcatu from which you can admire a breathtaking view of the entire oasis and the ponds where you can go birdwatching and, particularly in spring, spot the beautiful pink flamingos. In short, the Bidderosa oasis is a perfect destination for an exciting day out in the wilderness of the east coast with the whole family.
