Sa Perda e S’Altare Tomb of giants

Among the most prominent funeral monuments best preserved in the area of Birori, there is certainly the Tomb of giants called Sa Perda e S’Altare. The sepulture has the classic shape defined as protome taurina, which partially reflects in diagram the head of a taurus a sacred animal for nuragics as a male divinity simbolizing strength and power. The body hosts the rectangular funeral chamber 15 metres and a half long. The esedra, the outside cerimonial space of semicircle shape is made by 2 enormous stones asymmetric, sticked in the ground, separated in the centre by a large squared boulder embellished by the typical in relief frame in whose base the entrance gate to the funerary room can be found. In Voyage en Sardaigne, the popular travel diary written in the XIX Century by Alberto La Marmora. the monument was described and illustrated with drawings.
