Bitti Nuorese

Romanzesu Nuragic Complex

The wide granitic plateau 13 km northeast of the village of BItti has preserved one of the most fascinating monument resulting from the nuragic legacy. The so-called sanctuary village of Romanzesu stands out from the lush of an evergreen cork oak forest starting from the XV b.C onwards first as a simple village of huts built around the well which later will be used to build the wonderful temple adorned with the beautiful stepped amphitheatre. Next to the typical nuragic hut with its circular plant in the village can be found unique and original huts with ellittic plant. The sanctuary was probably established for the XIII century b.C. By this time the several temples in the area include an amazing set of uniques in the nuragic archaeology. Next to the elliptic huts and the astonishing amphitheatre used for public ceremonies you will admire also 2 megaron temples, a mysterious and fascinating labyrinth with what is believed to be a ritual path and a central cell and finally a touching Heroon. This one was probably the monumental tomb of a local hero and warrior and is nowadays the place where the highest amount of amber pearls has been found all over the nuragic Sardinia.
