Lei archaeological sites

Numerous archaeological remains have been found in the Lei area: six nuraghes, stone monuments with a defensive function; two domus de janas, prehistoric burial structures; three tombs of giants and funerary monuments consisting of collective tombs belonging to the Nuragic period. Close to the village, surrounded by nature, there are numerous testimonies of an inhabited area since the Neolithic period: two domus de Janas in the locality of su Ferrighesu and Muros, six nuraghes and three tombs of giants. In the 19th century, bronze fragments of hatchets, axes, daggers, spears, armillas and statuettes were found in a Nuragic votive storage room. Discovered in more recent times, from sa Tanchitta,there are two bronze cusps and spikes, a stone grinder and a coin of the Emperor Trajan, from Beraniles a bronze bracelet from the Punic period (now in the G.A. Sanna Museum in Sassari) and pieces of Roman jars from Calafrighedu.
