La Marmora Peak and Bruncu Spina Mountain

Gennargentu massif hosts the highest peaks of the island. Especially Punta La Marmora with its 1834 metres, and the Bruncu Spina, measuring 1829 metres, are both located in the municipality of Desulo. A landmark for trekkers and outdoor fond in search of breathtaking views. Bruncu Spina is the only skiing area in Sardinia. Thanks to the abundance of snow precipitation which affect the area of S’Arena, Desulo has become a destination for ski lovers as well. From the skiing area departs the so called Sentiero Italia, a trail leading to the huge metal cross on the top of the peak. Views from here, when the sky is clear, can be really impressive going from Cagliari to Corse island.  On the peaks vegetation is bare, made by the low bush scrubs.This is the kingdom of predatory birds such as the eagle, the kite and the griffon. During the rise to the peak trekkers will find the ruins of La Marmora shelter, dating back to 1901 and devoted to the famous italian general and politician.
