Orosei Baronia

Historic center of Orosei

Orosei represents the perfect combination of the hinterland and the coast. It is one of Sardinia's quintessential tourist destinations, but the streets of the town (which has a population of around 5,000) are full of handicrafts, typical products and folklore, without missing anything for the tourists who choose this destination for their holidays every year. Wandering on the streets of the old town you will be enchanted by the Baroque style and the almost medieval atmosphere of the cobbled streets and the typical old stone houses. There are numerous Spanish-style churches to be found, which say a lot about the population, as they are very devoted and attached to sacred festivals, which are now perfectly blended with secular celebrations. Orosei is not only sea! in fact it allows you to combine relaxing days on the beach with fascinating visits to ancient buildings, historical structures and museums. Sa Preione Vezza and the Museo Don Giovanni Guiso are of particular interest, the first one, "the old prison", was originally a Judicial castle and later, at around 1449, it was used as a prison and now it functions as a tourist attraction. The latter one is the main museum, located in an old aristocratic residence and it hosts bizarre and unusual collections such as ancient miniature theatres, works of art, rare objects such as the elegant dresses of the Callot sisters or Nurajev's cloak, as well as a library with very rare and ancient texts.
