Borore Media Valle del Tirso

Duos Nuraghes Nuragic complex

The Duos Nuraghes nuragic complex is located on the top of a hill for 4600 square meters. Of the several nuraghes in the area of Borore, these buildings are of basic importance since the southern tower dates back to 2000 a. C., whereas it is one of the most ancient tholos nuraghes in Sardinia. This building is higher than 4 metres and its central chamber, perfectly round. No niches can be found and its roof is almost intact. The access is given by a trapezoidal entrance which is surrounded by an epistle of imposing size. The building of the northern tower dates back to the  XV century B.C., such as the bastion connecting the two towers. According to the typical features of the monuments built during the iron age there is the presence of a niche on the entrance right, whereas on the left there are the remains of a staircase through which we can access the upper floor. Here the central chamber presents three small niches. Around these main structures can be found the remains of a village made by rounded huts. In 2002 this site gave back hundreds of grape seeds dating back 1200 B.C allowing to establish that the farming and domestication of Vitis vinifera was already known in Sardinia before the arrival of Phoenicians.
