Onifai Baronia

Archeological sites of Onifai

There are numerous archaeological sites in the area surrounding the village, some of which are Dolmen, Domus de Janas, nuraghi and protonuraghi that testify the fact that the territory was inhabited since the Neolithic. The Dolmen of Istrullio of remarkable importance still preserves a large granite slab flanked by boulders that are thought to be the main pillars, and the domus de Janas of Doddoi, Enas, Isthiolài, Oddoene and Ominzana, which still appear highly recognisable as they still preserve the atrium and the interconnected cells, 6 kilometres from the village there is also a Tomb of the Giants, of Cutinas and although it is not possible to admire the complete structure because it has been corroded over time, it is still an easily recognisable part of the form thanks to the conservation of the internal corridor.
There are also three nuraghes, the nuraghe Latas, the nuraghe Omine Intréu and the nuraghe Rampinu, the first one preserves part of the internal and external walls and a part of the staircase that probably led to the second floor, the second one is built in granite and has a room and a part of a hypothetical second room as it is overlooked by the ruins of ancient walls and the third one at the foot of "Su Golei", uses the narrow rocky walls and the indentations of the land as rooms, combining architecture with the use of the conformation of the land where the nuraghe is situated.
