Antonio Ortiz Echague Contemporary and Modern art museum

During the first half of the XIX century, the little town of Atzara became home to some Spanish painters belonging to the Costumbrismo, attracted by the local tradition for their artistic inspiration. Among them Antonio Ortiz Echague. Thanks to him, a new painting language developed in Atzara, a new expression of the Spanish painting influenced by the local culture. Atzara became a destination for the great Sardinian artists of the time such as Francesco Ciusa, Antonio Ballero, Giuseppe Biasi, Filippo Figari, Mario Delitala, Carmelo Floris, Stanis Dessy. The museum displays an important collection of artworks by the great 900 artists among which there is the famous Ortiz Echague workpiece known as “Women of Sardegna”.
